

The impact of the migration phenomenon on women and the increase of women involved in this influx have enacted the Health Initiative of the Americas (HIA) and the National Institute of Women (INMUJERES) to jointly create a manual on the Reproductive and Sexual Health of Migrant Women. By developing sensible and comprehensive materials, HIA and INMUJERES aim to protect the human rights of migrant women. While this manual is geared toward individuals that work with the migrant population, other professional groups may also benefit from its contents. For example, community leaders aiming to promote the development and health of migrant women, agencies and people offering services to the migrant population, especially those dedicated to health awareness; and individuals responsible for designing and organizing social, community, or assistance projects that are related to health awareness. This year, the Ninth BHW will take place October 3-15, 2009 in 40 states in the U.S. and 3 provinces in Canada, with the participation of the consular networks of Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. Additionally, during BHW five national campaigns will be implemented to promote awareness among the underserved Latino community on H1N1 Influenza, Prevention of Addictions, Nutrition, Prevention of Strokes, and Living Green.
