The new Network on Research on Migration and Health for the United States, Mexico and Central America was launched on Tuesday, October 11, 2005 in Chicago, Illinois during the Health Policy Forum of Binational Health Week. The Network interim governing council includes distinguished researchers, policy makers, donors and community leaders. The mission of the network is to contribute to improve the health of migrants and their families through research collaboration, dissemination, and interdisciplinary dialogue. It is expected that over 150 researchers from 40 institutions will soon join the network to strengthen a vibrant program of research support and exchange. REMIS is intended to be a leading forum in health and migration in the region thanks to its targeted diffusion, the timely exchange of knowledge and its support to interdisciplinary and international collaborations. The launching of the Network was supported by the National Institute of Public Health of Mexico (INSP) and the Health Initiative of the Americas (HIA).
