The Third Binational Health Week (BHW) activities took place from October 12-19, 2003, in California, where almost half of the population of Mexican origin in the United States resides, and in 8 Mexican states characterized by a population with high international mobility. Twenty-two California counties participated in delivering health-related services and information: Alameda, Fresno, Kern, Imperial, Los Angeles, Merced, Monterey, Napa, Orange, Sacramento, San Bernardino, San Francisco, San Luis Obispo, San Mateo, Santa Barbara, Solano, Sonoma, San Diego, Riverside, Tulare, Ventura, and Yolo. The 8 Mexican states were Baja California, Guanajuato, Jalisco, Michoacán, Morelos, Oaxaca, Puebla, and
Zacatecas. BHW was an effort of federal, state, and local entities, public and private, in favor of promoting the health and well-being of Mexican immigrants in California and their families in Mexico. Health activities also took place in New York and New Jersey.
