The Fourth Summer Institute on Migration and Health occurred simultaneously this
year with the 67th IME’s Health Formative Journey, and counted 151 participants
from Mexico, the United States, Canada and Spain. There was representation from
20 U.S. states and 18 states of Mexico.
Contributing organizers for this academic event included the School of Medicine of
the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP), the Institute of Mexicans
Abroad (IME) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, and Health Initiative of the
Americas (HIA), School of Public Health at UC Berkeley. The event took place from
June 29th to July 3rd in the Carolino Historic Building from the BUAP in Puebla,
As its main objective, the Institute provided information on migration and health,
from an international and multidisciplinary perspective. Also, the course encouraged
the conformation of collaborative networks that can be of great importance for
improving health and quality of life of migrants, both in the United States and Mexico
and other countries in the region.
